HEALTH GOALS CHIROPRACTIC

Most people consider the term “holistic,” to refer to alternative medicines; however, holism is not just about medicine, it’s about taking an approach that considers the entire entity. Although, alternative medicines such as homeopathy, reflexology and chiropractic are considered treatment for the entire entity, a.k.a. the human body; I believe there is something more to a holistic approach.
Every part of the human body needs a little fine tuning now and then. Perhaps some days we need an entire overhaul, but for the most part, we need to make small adjustments.
In holism, a individual is treated through emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical elements — treating the whole person. Now imagine taking this principle of healing to goal setting. Imagine setting meaningful personal goals covering your emotional, mental, spiritual and physical self. Basically, you become your own life coach and evaluate each area of your life and then set goals in the areas that need adjustment.
Because the various aspects of our lives are interwoven, improvement in one area often leads to improvement in several more areas. Imagine living your entire life successfully attaining goals. Your attitude toward life changes, you develop what I have termed a ‘GO Attitude’.
A GO Attitude is a person having an excitement about life that inspires a journey of personal discovery, self-direction, and meaningful achievement. A person with a GO Attitude lets every aspect of their life work together for the good of their ‘whole self.’
This time of year is especially common for would be ‘achievers’ to set goals and abandon them a few weeks or months later. Instead of this traditional New Year’s resolution method, take your time to evaluate your “whole person” not just your career. Begin to think about what part of your life needs to be “treated,” and set STAR-Quality Goals in those areas.
This holistic approach dismantles the traditional habits of short-lived New Year’s Resolutions and career based happiness and focuses on helping individuals maintain a balanced lifestyle year round.
In this rough economy, we can focus on what is good in our lives, then set and track meaningful goals to overcome our troubles.
A cookie-cutter success formula does not work for everyone. Society and other goal-setting programs tell us what is important and what success means, but everyone is different; we have different concerns and aspirations. By using a holistic approach you can create your own definition of success and find the harmony and balance in life that comes from personal fulfillment.

Has anyone used acupuncture to help them gain muscle?
My insurance plan includes visits to an acupuncturist OR a chiropractor. I’d like to take advantage of it to help me with my training goals. I know chiropractic’s good for back health, but I’m wondering if acupuncture has a benefit for people trying to gain muscle.
i don’t think it is going to have any affect on muscle gain if anything i think it would decrees it but i sure would take advantage of the chiropractor while training

Many philosophies have been adopted throughout history in the continuing search for good health. Holistic health is the realization of our potential as humans as total beings, and our desire to live fulfilling and satisfying lives. The overall goal is not just to be physically healthy but also to be in harmony with oneself and the environment at all levels, body, mind and spirit. Relationships, social interaction and lifestyle are also factors that are considered when dealing with a holistic approach. Managing, or eliminating stress is a basic component of holistic health.
Holistic is a term that emphasizes the functional relationship between the whole and its parts. Holistic health or holistic medicine attempts to treat the whole person, including mind, body, spirit, and emotions. Holistic medicine is not a new concept or theory. In fact holistic health is more of a philosophy that has been in existence for thousands of years. Holistic medicine however is new to western medicine and our health care system.
When holistic medicine is used in conjunction with traditional health care, the approach to therapy takes on a whole new dimension. Patients roles are changed in that they become more involved in their treatment by being made aware of their condition and how their thoughts, behaviors and attitudes are attributed to the situation and they are taught how by making changes they can be actively involved in their own healing process.
There are several terms that are often associated with holistic medicine. Alternative medicine, complementary medicine, and natural healing are probably terms that you have heard before. Alternative medicine is a term used by both medical professionals and the general public to describe medical techniques or procedures that are not generally recognized or accepted by traditional or conventional practitioners.
These techniques include non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical methods as well as experimental drugs or therapies that are not in general use or as of yet widely accepted as means of effective treatment. The attitudes about alternative medicine are changing and in recent years many of the practices have become widely accepted so much so that a few are now actually considered conventional.
Complementary medicine is usually a term used by conventional or traditional medical practitioners to describe non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical practices that are used in conjunction with or to compliment surgery and prescription or over the counter drugs.
The implication is that these practices are the primary tools used in the healing or treatment process and that the unconventional techniques are just used as a backup or supplement as needed. Natural healing refers to non-invasive techniques as well but does not usually involve the use of any drugs or supplements of any kind. Natural healing is usually a reference to physical healing or bodywork only.
There is a wide variety of natural, alternative, or complementary practices that are used to attain holistic health. Some of these practices include aromatherapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, naturopathy, medicinal herbs, Reiki, Tai chi, and yoga. All of these approaches can help reduce stress. Stress reduction is a fundamental principal of holistic health. The reduction of stress is believed to allow the body’s natural healing abilities to go to work.

The use of alternative and complimentary medicine in the United States was found in more than 50% of adults and children, according to statistics from 2007. A significantly higher acceptance is found overseas. When asking yourself why so many people are turning to alternative medicine, you find a very simple answer. More of the population are seeking health of both body and mind, and are finding it through holistic and/or alternative sources.
What Is The Holistic Approach?
Rather than using a particular type of treatment, a method of treatment is used with holistic health. This approach takes into consideration all aspects of your health, instead of treating only the symptoms physically residing in your body. The aspects taken into account are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
If you take a cold for example, a traditional medical practitioner would treat each symptom separately. They would likely tell you to take something for fever, something else for sinus issues and yet another as a cough suppressant.
A holistic practitioner may instead look at the causes for your decreased immune system. Stress, poor diet, compromised hormone or metabolic systems, negative emotions, limiting thought patterns, past trauma and so on. They look at your entire body/mind connection to determine what is causing the illness and treat the cause. Likewise, they may look to more natural remedies to alleviate or relieve your symptoms.
The goal of the holistic approach is not just overall physical well-being but also emotional, mental and spiritual well being too. They’re all intricately linked to your general well being and whole body/mind balance.
Therapies And Modalities For Whole Body/Mind Balance
There are many varieties of therapies and approaches to treatment when you consider the many holistic practitioners and how they treat their patients. Within the world of traditional medicine you will find that an osteopathic physician or a DO, rather than an MD, takes a whole body approach to treatment where an MD does not, although both are board certified and provide the same level of care.
Beyond traditional medicine, there are a number of alternative therapies or therapies which come from eastern traditions. For example:
• Energy Psychology
• Hypnosis
• Mindfulness Meditation
• Emotional Freedom Technique
• Reiki
• Massage
• Touch Therapy
• Acupuncture
• Chiropractic
• Ayurveda
• Biofeedback
• Naturopathy
Choosing the type of treatment you decide to use may have somewhat of a dependency on your approaches to healthcare as well as your current physician. More doctors have begun to accept other means of healthcare such as massage, Reiki or hypnosis, and in most cases have a few recommendations about potential choice for therapists. It may be of benefit to you to consider a combination of therapies for a whole body/mind approach, depending on what various issues you are dealing with. If you are receiving chiropractic care as well as acupuncture, in order to assist with your nutritional balance you may also want to see a naturopath.
If you have suffered from illnesses such as depression, fatigue, insomnia or digestive issues you may have been prescribed a variety of pharmaceuticals, only to find they did not solve the problem. Depression for example, can be caused by many issues such as food allergies, poor or lack of sleep or a hormonal imbalance. If treated by looking at the whole person, and not simply treating one of the issues, your chances of relieving the issue all together is a more likely occurrence.
Statistics don’t lie. With more than 50% of Americans turning towards alternative care, the realization is being made that the approach of holistic health is leading to a far better outlook on health and happiness than traditional medicine. People are leaving the ‘take a pill to treat a symptom’ approach of traditional medicine, and embracing the benefits of balance of whole body/mind health.
