“I’ve been on a diet for two weeks and all I’ve lost is fourteen days.” ~Totie Fields

You probably lost money too.

Did you know…

Americans spent $55.4 billion on diets and weight loss products/services in 2006. By the end of 2010, this amount is expected to reach $68.7 billion.

“The second day of a diet is always easier than the first. By the second day you’re off it.” ~Jackie Gleason

Diets encourage a temporary solution to weight loss. How long can you really stick to a diet? I’m guessing temporarily.

“At the end of every diet, the path curves back to the trough.” ~Mason Cooley

Did you know…

Nearly all dieters (95%) regain the weight they lost within one to five years.

“I tried every diet in the book. I tried some that weren’t in the book. I tried eating the book. It tasted better than most of the diets.” ~Dolly Parton

3 reasons you may be a chronic dieter.

  • You don’t trust yourself with food.
  • You convince yourself that the next diet will work.
  • You think that losing weight will make dieting worthwhile.

“Probably nothing in the world arouses more false hopes than the first four hours of a diet.” ~Dan Bennett

Another false hope is thinking there is a quick and easy way to lose weight. There isn’t.

You can lose weight and keep it off, but fad diets are not the answer. The only way to achieve permanent weight loss is to make small, gradual, and permanent changes to your lifestyle.

There are many things and ways you can find health insurance at a low price. The funny thing though is that looking around is not actually the only thing. There are things you must do and adjustments you’d have to make. Here are a few of them…

1. You will pay a more affordable rate if you maintain a healthy routine. The quality of what you eat will sooner or later have an effect on your rate. Removing fats, cholesterol and high carb from your diet will make it easier for you to retain the ideal weight, live a healthier life and, as a result, get cheaper rates.

2. You can reduce your health insurance costs by using free clinics. You’ll either lower your health insurance premium directly or have fewer and reduced co-payments to make this way. They are good opportunities for you to get professional medical advice and have routine check up. These clinics could be run by a community or rendered as community service by an organization.

3. You may eligible for Medicaid if you’re really finding it difficult to pay for traditional plans. The rules for eligibility differ with different states. In spite of the differences in various states, Medicaid is for families that are in the low income bracket. Having a job does not make you ineligible.

It would lower your cost if you or any family member qualifies. You can find out whether you or yours are eligible from your state’s Medicaid program.

4. Joining an HMO will help lower your cost. HMOs provide health insurance coverage that is far less expensive than regular plans. With a lower cost, however, come restrictions in the doctors, medical professionals and hospitals you can use.

If you find that the limited choices of an HMO are more than the benefits you get, you can look at other health insurance plans. For such folks, cost can be reduced by a great margin if they take the time out to shop extensively for low rates in traditional health insurance. If you shop right you will spend much less on any plan you choose.

But if reducing cost is priority, then settle for an HMO as it is normally cheaper than traditional health insurance.

5. Select a higher deductible and you’ll get a cheaper health insurance rate. This is the amount you will pay before your insurer is bound to pay accordingly. Even though it’s recommended that you opt for a very high deductible, take care that it’s an amount that you can easily pay.

6. You can get better rates now by visiting a minimum of five insurance quotes sites. You will make savings if you visit only one quotes site. But, you will get more by using at least five. I recommend that you use a minimum of five quotes sites as it will ensure you do not miss out offers not given by the other sites. This raises your chances of getting better rates.

Which food has more fairy dust, and which journalist will report it?
In his now-famous New York Times magazine piece, Michael Pollan told us to “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” What is often forgotten is that this was not a prescription for eating as much as it was an admonition against “nutritionism”, the idea that foods are nothing more than a vehicle for the delivery [...]
